Principal Package

We have compiled a “Principal Package” that you can use in your communication with your school principals.

Use this email template to help introduce the MDI to your principals.

Provide this step-by-step checklist to your school principals to help guide them through the MDI administration process.

Provide this to schools to distribute to parents for an overview of the MDI.

Provide this to schools to show how the MDI asks children questions related to the BC Ministry of Education’s Personal and Social Competencies and how MDI data can provide a unique approach to understanding children’s social and emotional development and well-being in relation to these competencies.

This is a resource providing an overview of the MDI, its dimensions and things you need to know about the project. You can share this with your school community and staff, distribute to parents, or to anyone interested to learn about the MDI.

Survey Administrator Package

We have compiled a “Survey Administrator Package” that you can use to share MDI resources with your school principals.

Use this email template to share MDI resources to principals and schools as well as to provide important information about MDI Parent/Guardian Informed Passive Consent Letters.

Provide this step-by-step checklist to your school principals to help guide them through the MDI administration process.

Schools can use this template to inform their school community about the MDI by including this in the school newsletter and/or website.

Schools can use this messaging to accompany the MDI Parent Informed Passive Consent Letter when they email or send the letter home to parents/guardians. Principals and teachers can also use this to talk to their students about the MDI and the Informed Passive Consent Letter the students are bringing home.

This is a resource summarizing the question topics on the MDI, including links to additional resources. We recommend that you distribute this to parents in January as a reminder of upcoming MDI administration. The MDI Questions Brief serves as a reminder that the MDI is taking place in the schools and gives parents more information about the MDI and the kind of questions we ask

Principals can share this letter with their survey administrators to inform them about the MDI project.

Distribute to parents/gurardians for an overview of the MDI.

Informed passive consent letters are sent to all parents/guardians of participating classes prior to the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) questionnaire being completed in January and February of each year. They include information about the MDI project and contact information in case the parents or guardians have any questions.

The letters are available in 12 languages; please share the translated versions with your families that do not speak English at home.

Parent Letters

Please read the following before downloading. To prepare your parent letters for distribution, please:

  1. Place letters on School Board/District letterhead
  2. Fill out the highlighted sections which includes the district contact information at the end, as well as the due date on the parent withdrawal form (last page)
  3. Keep in mind that parents/guardians must have 4 weeks to withdraw their students before the survey takes place, so we recommend sending the letters as soon as possible to be ready for administration in January/February.
  4. As an on-going effort to help reach Indigenous families and communities, connect with your board/district’s Indigenous Principal and request a word or short phrase in order to insert either a word of welcome or thanks in the language of the Nation whose territory you live and work in that can go at the start or end of the English parent consent letter. If you need assistance please don’t hesitate to contact the HELP MDI Team.
