In 2022-23, we have made some updates to the MDI questionnaires based on feedback from our school and community partners, and to align with emerging trends and research in middle childhood development. Overall, we have shortened the questionnaire, removing some questions while still maintaining coverage across the 5 dimensions of the MDI. We have also added new questions to capture current topics of interest in middle childhood.
Updates to Out of School time section
We have broadened the timeframe in which we ask children about their organized and free time activities from just the after-school period, to any time outside of school. We still ask children about where they go after school.
New Questions
We have added new questions to capture current topics of interest in middle childhood, including:
• Questions on climate and environmental concerns
• A question on daily physical activity
• A race and ethnicity question in the demographics section for Grades 6, 7 and 8 only
• A question on social media use for Grades 6, 7 and 8 only
The questionnaires can be viewed here.
